It may be four years since the cycling community lost Ed Duggan, but the popular Killarney Cycling Club man is as missed as ever.
Yesterday riders from Ed’s club and others in the Co
Kerry area turned out for a now annual group ride to remember him four years on
from his death on a club training ride.
Ed died after he was hit by a driver in a car on November
15th, 2015, while cycling on the N22 at Scart, Farranfore, Co Kerry.
The 36-year-old was out with his club mates on a Sunday
morning spin at the time.
The vehicle was driven by Sean O’Mahony (35) with an
address at Ballybeggan, Tralee, Co Kerry.
He was cleared earlier this year of dangerous driving
causing the death of the club cyclist after telling the court he was blinded by
the sun at the time of the collision.
Yesterday a large group of riders departed Killarney at
9am, riding out to the location where Ed was killed and where a white bike in
his memory was erected after his death.
The group was joined by Ed’s partner Siobhan as well as
his brothers Peter and Christopher and stopped at the scene to remember him and
lay flowers.
The remembrance was followed by refreshments at Ed’s Cabin outside Firies, Co Kerry; a nice event that will undoubtedly continue with the same strong support in the years ahead.
