Irish cycling's best honoured at glitzy Cycling Ireland awards

Ryan Mullen won the media-selected 'international performance of the year'. There were eight winners voted by Cycling Ireland members and plenty of new 'hall of famers' and 'outstanding achievement' award winners (Photo: Sean Rowe)

The winners at Cycling Ireland’s annual awards have been announced this evening at an event in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Dublin.

The international performance of the year went to Cannondale-Drapac WorldTour pro Ryan Mullen for his incredible 5th place in the elite TT at the World Road Championships in Doha just last month.

The winner of that award is selected by members of the media who write about cycling, including stickybottlers.

Eoin Morton (UCD-FitzCycles.ie) has won the best domestic male rider of the year.

Grace Young (De Ronde De Van Cork) has beaten off Paralympic champions Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal for the best domestic based female rider of the year.

However, Dunlevy and McCrystal were presented with an outstanding achievement award for their exploits in Rio.

Rio Heroes: Eve McCrystal's and Katie George Dunlevy's award says they were outstanding; never a truer word spoken. They're in the history books with bells on and there's loads more to come from them.

Gold and silver medal winners from Rio; Eoghan Clifford and Colin Lynch were also presented with ‘outstanding achievement’ awards.

Another winner of an outstanding achievement award was off-road legend Robin Seymour, who won a Masters MTB world title this year.

And another legend, the very dearly missed Richie Byrne, was posthumously honoured with induction into Cycling Ireland’s hall of fame.
