The opening round in Southport’s Victoria Park sees the park closed to all traffic and the paths used as the race track for the day.

That move is aimed at making the racing safer but also improving the young riders’ bike handling skills.

There will be two races in each age category that day; a shorter race in the morning followed by a longer race in the afternoon. Fields are limited to 45 riders.

Sunday’s race, which is close to Manchester, will take place on the Tameside Cycle Circuit. It’s a dedicated circuit for cycling meaning the large bunch can race in a safe environment closed to vehicles.
