Cycling Ireland is seeking requests for preferred dates now from anyone organising a sportive or race in 2020

Cycling Ireland has opened the 2020 events calendar for applications, with racing and leisure event organisers now on notice to get their requests in immediately.

The deadline is November 15th and with some changes made to the racing calendar in particular in recent years, early applications for specific dates are likely.

The national governing body has changed around the dates of some events in recent years as the start of the season has been pushed back by two weeks; to the first weekend in March.

Efforts have also been made to spread fixtures more evenly through the season in a bid to extend it.

That has resulted in some races being moved, some by many months, from their tradition times of the year.

And while that has always been welcomed, the season has been more sustained in the past couple of years.

And it has stressed that organisers who miss the date cannot be prioritised for their chosen dates.

The events calendar for 2020 is now open for
applications and will close at end of day on Friday 15th November 2019,” it
said.

“You must submit your event for 2020 before the closing date. This applies to both competitive and leisure events.

“The provincial
calendar coordinators and the commissions will review the applications and
approve or reject the events for their province or discipline.

“The applicant
for any rejected event will be advised of the rejection and reasons for such.

“All approved events
will be reviewed by the events officer who will be responsible for establishing
and publishing the full Cycling Ireland calendar.

“Events submitted after the closing date will have no priority in the allocation of dates.”
