Well known commissaire and Cycling Ulster stalwart, Maurice McAllister, has sadly passed away after being ill for a period. His family confirmed his passing, which occurred in hospital on Christmas Day.

Maurice's son, Steven, said his "hero and best friend" had passed away peacefully in Antrim Hospital after a short illness.

"I want to thank everyone who has been messaging asking about him, the visitors who called with him and all those wishing him a return to good health," he said. "Unfortunately it just wasn't meant to be as he took very unwell again last night and took his final breath at lunchtime.

"I want to thank the staff in the Causeway Hospital stroke ward, the doctors and nurses in Mid Ulster who worked to try and get him back on his feet and the team at Antrim Hospital who made his final hours as comfortable as possible."
