Irish cycling journalist hired to help UCI public relations effort

An Irish cycling journalist has been hired to help the UCI and its president Pat McQuaid through the current period during which the organisation is under unprecedented international scrutiny over doping.

Ian McClure has run his own PR company - http://www.mccluremediapr.com - for a number of years and more recently ran the Irish Pro Cycling website, which covered the exploits of Ireland’s professional cyclists.

The site has not been updated since the Olympics, with McClure now focusing his efforts on his work with the UCI.

Based in Blackrock in Dublin, he was taken on by the UCI as a contractor to assist it through the publication of the USADA report into Lance Armstrong and some of his former team mates, and the fall out from that.

McClure spent the early part of his career working in local journalism in Ireland before moving into the public relations world. He has worked as a press agent for a number of professional riders including Nicolas Roche and Philip Deignan.

It is unclear how long he will assist the UCI PR effort, though the organisation has retained its long standing press staff, with McClure adding to their work.
