The club said it had learned of Gabriel's passing with a very heart. And in a statement that confirmed his sad passing, it said he had thrown himself into his own cycling and organising events in the sport.

The Irish cycling community is mourning the death of Emyvale CC stalwart Gabriel Bell.

A popular rider and club and national official, Gabriel died on Christmas Eve.

The club announced Gabriel’s death, expressing its members’ sadness at his passing.

It's with heavy hearts that Emyvale Cycling Club has learned of the tragic passing of Gabriel Bell,” it said.

“(He was) one of the hardest working club members of recent years. Gabriel was club secretary for the past few years.

“And he was meticulous in everything that he undertook; from organising races and tours to general club business.

“He is a former member of the year and touring member of the year. In recent years he became a Cycling Ireland race commissaire.

“Gabriel enjoyed touring and took part in events the length and breadth of Ireland and beyond.

“He completed several 312s in Majorca and cycled in the French Alps a few years back. He will indeed be sorely missed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Noreen, sons Mark, Dara and David and daughter Shauna at this very sad time.”

The club cancelled its club spins until further notice as a mark of respect. Gabriel’s funeral took place yesterday in Threemilehouse.
