Irish cycling company's face mask offer; free to front line health care workers

The new masks are available in three colours - including pink and black - and for every one you buy another is sent free of charge to front line workers to use to protect themselves while off-duty

Irish cycling and triathlon apparel company VeloRevolution is now making face masks for cyclists and the general public during the Covid19 crisis, with front line health workers also benefiting from every sale.

The reusable masks are €10 each and for every one bought another will be supplied to those on the front line fighting the virus across the Irish health system.

VeloRevolution is headed by former
top domestic elite rider, and former Irish Masters road race champion, Aidan
Crowley.

He says the face masks not only help to limit the spread of Covid19 but that those who wear them will be given more confidence as they move around more now that lock-down conditions are being eased.

Crowley explained the idea was not to make a profit from the masks. Instead, the profit generated from the sale of a mask to a cyclist or any other member of the general public would cover the cost of another mask being produced and posted free of charge to a frontline worker.

While they are being supplied with masks and other PPE in their places of work, Crowley says his masks are a comfortable option for frontline workers to wear going to and from work and as they move around off-duty.

The masks, or face coverings, are available in a variety of colours from the VeloRevolution cycling and triathlon apparel company’s site. They are all reusable and washable, including the filter inserted into each one.

“I’ve created the face masks with an internal replaceable filter which are fully customisable, super soft and come in lots of colors and in kids, female and male sizes,” Crowley explained of his newest product.

“Because one of the key compositions is lycra, it won’t pull on the ears when it’s on. And they are a comfortable face mask for the general public as well.”

While the Government has advised people to wear masks, or some form of face covering, they are not mandatory in Ireland.

Even when members of the public wear masks as advised, the Government has suggested them as a covering rather than a medical-grade item.

Crowley’s product is aimed at those who want a face covering that is comfortable but is also reusable and functional. His can be washed at 40c in a machine wash.

The masks are proving a hit, with hundreds already sold. They are available in five colours; black, orange, yellow, pink and even leopard print.
