Irish cycling 31 places Bergen World Road Championships
Irish cycling has 31 places at the World Road Championships in Bergen, Norway, next month.
The Irish can send a maximum of 21 riders to contest the elite, U23 and junior male and female road races.
And there are 10 places on offer in the five TTs that will be fought out in Bergen.
In the elite men’s road race Ireland has qualified six places on the start list.
That quota was secured as Ireland is ranked 13th nation the UCI’s elite men’s world rankings.
Nations in the top 10 get nine places in the road race. And countries ranked 11th to 20th get six places.
The two places in the elite men's TT are on offer to all nations. No qualification for is needed for the race against the clock.

In the elite women’s road race in Bergen, Norway; Irish cycling can enter three riders.
Ireland is not in the top 20 elite women’s nations in the world. The Irish are currently 48th in the rankings.
For all countries not in the top 20, three places in the road race at automatically granted.
And two places are also automatically awarded to all countries, irrespective of ranking, in the TT.
The Irish U23 men’s team is ranked 15th in the European Tour rankings. All nations ranked 1st to 15th qualify five riders for the Worlds road race.
All nations are automatically granted two places for the U23 men’s TT.
In the junior men’s category, qualification for the road race depends on the Nations Cup.
Those countries in the top 10 can start six riders. Nations placed 11th to 15th may start five riders. And countries placed 16th to 20th get to start four riders.
All nations outside the top 20 can start three riders. As the Irish juniors are ranked 25th, they fall into that band of automatic three-rider qualification for the road race.
In the junior women’s category, nations in the top five of the Nations Cup can start five riders in the Worlds road race. All other nations are allocated four places.
Ireland is currently not among the 26 nations ranked and so we are eligible for four places in the junior women's road race.
The Irish male junior and female junior teams can both avail of two places in the TT. All nations are allocated two TT places.
