
Gardai are investigating the cause of a collision that has claimed the life of an Irish club cyclist.

An Irish club cyclist has died in a road traffic collision in Co Kildare this morning, Sunday.
The deceased cyclist, a woman and member of a Dublin cycling club, was involved in the fatal collision at Rathcoffey between Clane and Maynooth.
The collision occurred near Rathcoffey Church and the road has been closed for examination by the Garda.
Early indications are that an oncoming vehicle was travelling towards the group of cyclists and that the deceased rider and car collided at a turn in the road.
The tragic incident occurred at about 11am and the cyclist, who is in her mid 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further details were available at the time of writing though further updates will follow.
A garda media statement said: “Gardaí at Naas, Co. Kildare are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 11am this morning Sunday 12th February, 2017 on the Rathcoffey to Maynooth Road, Clane, Co. Kildare (R408).
“A female (mid 30s) pedal cyclist was fatally injured when she was in collision with a car. Her body has been removed to Naas General Hospital.
“The male driver (late 20s) of the car who was the sole occupant, was uninjured.
“The stretch of road was closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision Examination and has now reopened.”
