Fiona Mangan (Winspace Orange Seal), the Irish elite road race and TT champion, is getting back into road race action after breaking bones in a freak crash at Omloop Nieuwsblad (1.WWT) at the start of last month.
And while she has been on the sidelines there has been some good news for her French team, and Mangan herself, as the the ProContinental squad has been confirmed for Tour de France Femmes.
Mangan told stickybottle recently she was still suffering some pain from her injuries, especially when training on the road, but was looking forward to getting back into action. She added she was not sure how she crashed, though her saddle came off at the time, which appeared to cause her fall.
She had surgery on both her broken hand and broken collarbone and was well into her training return when interviewed three weeks ago, adding she was return to racing at some point this month.
And now that return has come a little earlier than expected as she has been named on the Winspace Orange Seal selection for Région Pays de la Loire Tour - Féminin (1.2), which will be fought out in western France today, Wednesday.
Also on the team are: Camille Fahy, Nadia Gontova, Constance Valentin, Karolina Perekitko and Jenaya Francis. The 115km race is mostly flat, but with a number of modest bumps in the final, including a final kicker to the line.
Mangan will not be the only Irish rider in action as national cyclocross champion Esther Wong lines out for Torelli - having won the Capernwray Road Race in Britain at the weekend.
Also in action tomorrow is Grace Reynolds, the Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team rider who took silver in the elite road race at the National Road Championships last year after a long-range solo breakaway.
