Irish elite road race champion Ben Healy, who has just completed a strong ride at the Tour of Britain, has been linked with a move to US-registered WorldTour team EF Education Nippo.
Reports in the Netherlands have stated Healy, who turned
21-years-old in recent days, will move to the team for next year, having ridden
for Trinity Racing for the last two years.
It will come as no surprise that Healy is being considered by WorldTour teams given his record, though the report in WielerFlitstoday appears to be the first time he has been linked with a specific team.
He was in the breakaway on the final stage on Sunday at
the Tour of Britain, during what was a debut ride in the race for Andrew
McQuaid’s Trinity Racing team.
Much of Healy’s U23 career has been interrupted by the pandemic, with many of the races his team was set to compete in cancelled this year and last. However, he has still taken very impressive results as an U23.
In 2019, his first year as an U23, he became the youngest
ever winner of a stage of Tour de l’Avenir. Last year he took a stage victory
in Ronde de l'Isard and also won the elite and U23 road race titles in Ireland
as well as the U23 TT title.
This year he claimed a stage win, on the final day, of
the Baby Giro by attacking the breakaway. He also ended that race 12th overall
despite losing time on the opening day when the heat undermined his
performance.
The same report in the Netherlands today suggesting Healy is bound for EF Education Nippo has linked double Tour de l’Avenir stage winner Marijn van den Berg to the team run by Jonathan Vaughters. The 22-year-old from the Netherlands is currently riding for Equipe Continentale Groupama-FDJ.
Furthermore, it appears James Shaw, the British rider
currently with Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling, is also headed for
EF Education Nippo. Shaw (25) previously rode for two seasons at WorldTour
level, with Lotto-Soudal.
