Irish amateur takes very relaxed attitude to claiming yellow jersey

Richard Maes is in the yellow jersey in Kanturk after winning the opening stage, but he has reassured his team mates they have nothing to worry about!

A man very capable of winning races when he's going well, Richard Maes is also able to take a relaxed look at the world, even in situations when others might feel the pressure.

So when he won the bunch sprint on the opening stage at the Kanturk Three Day and took the yellow jersey, he was quick to reassure his team mates they had nothing to worry about.

Maes was taking his third stage victory in Kanturk, having been a winner in two previous editions of the race.

And he was quick out of the traps to rule himself out of holding the race lead after Sunday's time trial, telling his team mates they could relax.

"Big thanks to the team," he said on Facebook after his win.

"They made it all the easier. Don’t worry lads; I can't tine trial so ye won’t have to drive the front tomorrow."

It's not the first time he's taken to social media with entertaining posts, as you can see below.
