Rory Townsend is to remain with the Canyon DHB p/b Soreen team in 2020 after a breakthrough season in 2019.
The Irish international’s name is among a 20-man roster for next season released by the team after he secured a new contract.
He recently capped a very strong season by taking his
first pro win on a stage of the Tour of Fuzhou before following up two days
later with another victory.
Townsend (24) enjoyed a very strong season during which he won the sprints classification at the Tour of Britain.
He also made the Irish road team for both the World Championships in Yorkshire and Europeans in Holland.
He was 3rd in the Classic Loire Atlantique (1.1) in France in March and claimed 3rd in the Rutland-Melton Cicle Classic (1.2) in Britain in April.
In Belgium in June he finished 2nd in Memorial Philippe
Van Coningsloo (1.2) and was 3rd in Heylen Vastgoed Heistse Pijl (1.1) before
finishing 4th in the road race at the National Championships in Derry.
Robbie McCarthy, another Irish international, had been
riding as a team mate of Townsend’s this year.
His name was not among the 2020 roster revealed by the squad yesterday and his plans for next year are not yet clear.
