Matt Teggart is set to stay on the British Continental scene next year after extending his contract with WiV-SunGod. The 26-year-old joined the team for 2022 and has previously ridden for An Post-Chainreaction and Team Wiggins as well as competing with French elite teams for a number of seasons.
The former Banbridge CC rider had a very successful season in 2022, winning the opening three rounds and the overall at the Cycling Ireland National Road Series. He ended his year with a fantastic ride in the Tour of Britain; repeatedly going on the attack and hoovering up the sprints classification points.
He was leading that classification when the race was cut short as the final stages were cancelled due to the death of the Queen. However, Teggart had amassed so many points he would have won the classification anyway had the race not been shortened.
Other notable results during 2022 include 4th in the Commonwealth Games road race in Warwick and 4th in Paris-Troyes (1.2). He also won the opening stage of Rás Tailteann, taking the yellow jersey for a day and repeating his stage win and yellow jersey on the 2017 Rás while riding for An Post-Chainreaction.
Teggart has represented Ireland at the World Championships and Europeans at different times during his career, at U23 and elite level, including being part of the team for the Europeans this year in Germany.
