Team Ireland selection for Rás Mumhan revealed

A five-man Irish development team has been entered into Kerry Group Rás Mumhan by Cycling Ireland over the upcoming Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Of the riders, three are from the British Holdsworth Pro Cycling team. They are Sean McKenna, Conn McDunphy and Dermot Trulock.

Also in the team for Kerry is the in-form Conor McCann. One of the revelations of this season to date, Dillon Corkery, also gets the nod.

Of the five, McKenna is the stand-out team leader. Not only has he previously ridden on the national team in Rás Mumhan, he is also won the race.

He emerged the victor back in 2015, confirming his status at the time was one of the most exciting young riders on the domestic scene.

And as recently as yesterday he demonstrated his early-season form by winning the Des Hanlon.

He got clear in the 11-rider breakaway that dominated the race. And when it whittled down to five at the finish he was too strong in the sprint.

Trulock and McDunphy are team mates of McKenna’s this year. They both rode Gent-Wevelgem yesterday on the U23 Irish team.

Both finished the race; an outing that should stand them in very good stead for this weekend.

Conor McCann is selected for Rás Mumhan having shown some great form already this year. He won the Spires GP and as 2nd in the Tour of Ards.

Last but by no means least, Dillon Corkery moves right into the national set-up at senior level having been a junior last year.

He claimed two races the weekend before last. He claimed the A2 race at Rás Naomh Finian and a day later won the A1 race at Rás Luimní.

The line-up has not yet been announced by Cycling Ireland. But it is the one just entered into the race by the federation.

More to follow on the build up to Rás Mumhan.
