Sam Bennett was the surprise name on the team sheet when
Cycling Ireland today confirmed the national squad for the European Road
Championships which begin in Trento, Italy, tomorrow.
The rest of the 22 riders selected for the elite, U23 and
junior road races and TTs were the same as those named by stickybottle at the
weekend.
However, Cycling Ireland has now also confirmed which riders will compete in both the TTs and the road races at the championships.

All of the road races – except for the elite men’s event –
will unfold around a 13.2km circuit, which includes a 3.6km climb at 4.7 per
cent. The riders descend off that climb each lap and then have a flat 4km to
the finish area.
The elite men’s race this Sunday will start in Valle dei
Laghi and do a 73km loop before racing onto the same 13.2km circuit used in the
other races, for eight laps of action. The TT is on a 22.4km flat and technical
course.
We’ve set out the time table, and the Irish riders set to compete in each TT and road race, in the schedule below.
