Ireland's Sam Bennett has three stage wins at the Tour of Turkey, though he lost his race lead today. However, it was perhaps training in the Irish weather that did for him on a very hot day.
Video interview Sam Bennett stage 4 Tour of Turkey
Sam Bennett has suggested a recent trip home to Ireland to train, and regroup after fatigue, counted against him at the Tour of Turkey today.
He had already won the first three stages of the race. But he lost his leader’s jersey on today’s stage 4.
It took the riders 205km from Marmaris to Selcuk. There were two climbs and a sprint prime before the final 4km summit finish.
And while Bennett appeared to look comfortable until he sat up and rode in on the summit finish climb, he said he found the whole stage quite hard.
An undulating start did not help him on what he said was a hard day in the heat in Turkey.
He still leads the points classification and will believe the race can bring more big things for him.
