International riders set for UCI-ranked 'Verge Cross Clonmel'

International riders and teams are set to compete in Cross Clonmel, the UCI-ranked cyclocross races set to unfold in Co Tipperary next weekend. The fixture is in its second edition having first been promoted last season.

While plenty of riders from home and abroad have already entered, the entry system remains open until midnight tomorrow, Sunday, October 9th. You can find out more information and enter by following this link.

One name already confirmed is that of Thomas Mein (WiV SunGod); the British national elite champion likely to prove a real handful for the Irish and international opposition in the Clonmel Cycling Club promotion.

British rider Anna Kay (777 PRO), who has medaled in the U23 World Championships and European Championships is also coming to Ireland for the event. She will be joined by compatriot Nathan Smyth, who won last year's junior race in Clonmel before going in to take 3rd place at the Worlds in the US.

The ‘Verge Cross Clonmel’ is scheduled to take place in Powerstown Park - the horse racing course - in the Co Tipperary town next weekend. UCI-ranked racing is planned for elite men and women and also male and female juniors.

UCI ranked races will be held on next Sunday for junior men and women, as well as for elite men and women. There will also be M40, M50 and M60 races promoted next Sunday. But before those events for juniors, elites and Masters, there will be a full range of youth races - from U8s to U16s - next Saturday, making for a bumper weekend of action.

The UCI has several categories of cyclocross racing, starting with the World Championships (CM). This is followed by World Cups (CDM). Then comes class 1 (C1) and class 2 (C2), with Verge Cross Clonmel carrying a C2 categorisation.
