Here's an interesting short video prepared by Darach McQuaid of the Shadetree Sports agency, which has been involved in some aspects of running professional cycling races in recent years.
McQuaid, younger brother of former UCI president Pat McQuaid, ran the now defunct Tour of Ireland. It saw some of the best riders in the world - including the former star turn, now disgraced, Lance Armstrong and the likes of Mark Cavendish - come to Ireland for the event from 2007 to 2009.
The race folded because of a financial shortfall linked to the recession and the withdrawal of key sponsors.
McQuaid, under the name of Shadetree Sports, was also involved in putting together some of the key players to bring the Giro d'Italia to Ireland next year. He previously worked as a consultant on the successful campaign to get the World Road Race Championships to Richmond in the US in 2015.
He is now determined to get the Tour of Ireland back up and running and is very hopeful the interest generated by the Giro's visit next May will help achieve that.
The above video may contain information already reported here on stickybottle over the course of the past year, but it's great to see it in video format and has been produced in a succinct, sharp style.
McQuaid has launched a new website - www.cyclingrenaissance.com - aimed at winning over investment to Irish cycling, or more specifically, to the Tour of Ireland and his company.
It would be a welcome return to the Irish calendar and would also provide his firm with an ongoing long term project at home to add to its work overseas. We'll have a chat to McQuaid in the next day or two about the Tour of Ireland plans.
In the meantime, the video above is well worth a look.
