This simple pin drop site can show you the 2km radius area around your home no matter where you live

Ireland was on Saturday still digesting news that exercise has been restricted for all residents of the Republic to within a 2km radius of home.

As part of the Government's Covid19 measures, new restrictions were put in place last night that mean people are being told to stay at home, except for trips to the shops to buy essentials or for other priority tasks.

The bad news for cyclists - or indeed anyone who does lots of exercise and likes to get out and about - is that people have been told they can only exercise within 2km of their homes.

And they've also been told when they exercise within that 2km radius of home, they should keep it brief; though a strict definition of "brief" has not yet been set out.

The zone will not be large enough to allow you to continue to train or to do any substantive cycling.

And the request to keep exercising outdoors "brief" puts a stop to the outdoor cycling most of use regularly engage in.

However, it's interesting to know exactly where you can stray from home and still be within the 2km radius "exercise zone".

Any cyclists who do some running for training or leisure should probably still be able to squeeze in a short training session outdoors within the "exercise zone".

But for cycling training, any substantive time in the saddle will have to be done indoors until at least Easter Sunday, April 12th, when the new restrictions introduced by the Irish Government last night were set to expire.
