Ineos Grenadiers vehicles targeted in organised attack, four suspects arrested

Ineos Grenadiers team vehicles were targeted in an organised vandalism attack in Belgium at the weekend

Ineos Grenadiers has had its vehicles targeted in an organised vandalism attack, suspected to have been carried out by militant environmentalists.

A number of vehicles - including cars, buses and team trucks - were spray painted at the team's service course in Deinze, Belgium.

Whoever was behind the attack has not claimed responsibility for it but European media reports have suggested it was carried out by people protesting at the damage they claim Ineos does to the environment.

Ineos is a plastics and chemicals company and its Grenadiers vehicle, which is the title co-sponsor of the team, is a large SUV.

Four people were arrested by the Belgian police shortly after the attack on Sunday during which 'Ineos will fall' was spray painted onto the vehicles.

It's not the first time Ineos - or the cycling team it now backs - has been targeted by environmentalists. An anti fracking group had threatened to spoil the team's launch of Ineos as its new backer in May, 2019, at the Tour de Yorkshire.

However, while some protestors turned out at that event, their numbers were very small. They had threatened to upstage the team launch because Ineos had the rights to frack in some areas of Britain.
