The organisers of the Kerry Group Rás Mumhan have warned those with designs on riding this year’s race over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend (April 18-21) to get their entries in as soon as possible as the quota of riders allowed has almost been reached.
Race director Tadhg Moriarty said that once that quota has been filled no other entries can be accepted under strict safety regulations.
So far, almost 200 riders have entered and there are only spaces for three more teams, warned Moriarty. He added he does not want a situation like last year with many teams scrambling for an entry at the last minute.
Though that was due in part to the cancellation of the Tour of the North, Moriarty said interest this year has been unprecedented with new and established squads all keen to be on the start line.
“We have 30 teams entered and now. So the race is on for the remaining available places and we definitely only have space for three more teams. The final list is expected shortly.”
Among the teams entered so far are West Frisia and Noord Ruiter Dakapallen from Holland. Joining them from Britain are debutants BH Solidor while Team Primal, Felt Colbornre, Surrey League and the Isle of Man no strangers to the race and all coming back.
There will also be a Scottish National Development Team for the first time, comprised mainly of espoir riders.
Top of the Irish entries is the Irish national Under 23 team which is expected to include some big hitters, with An Post-Chainreaction rider Ryan Mullen eligible to make a return to the race he made his debut in last year.
The remaining four places on that national selection are bound to be hotly contested.
Also entered in the competition from Ireland are: Liquidworx/Fitscience, Se.engine, Orwell Wheelers, Navan Road Club, UCD, Comeragh CC, Cuchullain, DID Dunboyne, Westport Covey Wheelers, St Finbarr’s, Aidan Crowley’s new VeloRevolution outfit, South Dublin, Omagh Wheelers, Western Lakes, Phoenix CC, Visit Nenagh, Bikeworx, Aqua Blue, new team from Killorglin IBIKE and the host club Killorglin CC.
Clubs and teams interested in taking part in the race should contact the race secretary Mary Concannon on 00 353 64 6644396 or 00 353 87 2802071 and by email on [email protected].
