The Rás organisers and An Garda Siochana have appealed for spectators travelling to see the finish of the stage tomorrow, Saturday, to follow strict instructions around parking facilities.
Parking is not only at a premium generally in Baltinglass, but the town is also home to a fire brigade and paramedic station, the routes to and from which need to be kept clear at all times.
Parking in the town is also under further pressure on the day because a large area must be kept clear in order that vehicles related to the race can park legally and safely when the stage has ended.
Stage end organiser, Seamus Domegan said parking facilities were being provided for spectators not far from the finish line.
“As people are driving into Baltinglass from the Dublin side, just before they get into the town there is designated parking available to them at the cattle mart on the right had side not far from the centre of the town,” he said.
“There will be signage on the approach to it put up by the race so people need to look out for that and follow it. And once they park the car there the finish is only up the road, it’s only a few minutes away on foot.”
While there is parking at Weaverly Square next to the finish line, in no circumstances will spectators be allowed to park there and they should not try to.
“The fire station is there so obviously access has to be kept open for them at all times, it’s very important that people realise that. And the parking at the Lawlor Centre is for race vehicles only so people shouldn’t park there either.
“There is plenty of parking at the cattle mart on the way into town and people really do need to park there.
“The Gardai have worked closely with us all along the route and they’ve asked us to be very clear with spectators about the parking in Baltinglass so hopefully everyone can follow those instructions.”
Sounds pretty simply; maybe people can spread the word and keep the hard working race organisers on the right side of their Garda partners; a vital partnership for the running of the race.
