Following on from his maiden win in France with AC Bisontine, Ireland’s Matt Teggart is now setting his sights on a good performance at the National Championships next month.
The former Junior Tour of Ireland stage winner won a second category race in the town of Montigny les Vesoul on Friday close to where he’s based in Besancon.
And it’s given him a real confidence boost at a timely moment.

Teggart was among the first riders to come through Cycling Ireland's Talent Team 2020 youth set-up. He showed flashes of what he can do as a junior but was blighted with injury during those two years. “I'm delighted to have won, it feels great,” he said of his victory on Friday from an escape, having been up the road in another move for most of the race.
“At the start of the year I thought I'd be coming over here to get a hammering week in week out.
"And most often I do get a hammering, but to get a win really feels good and to show the team what I know I'm capable of is a good feeling.
“It gives me a bit more confidence for the rest of the year to try and get another win before the season’s over,” he added.

The plan for now is to continue racing abroad and take it “week by week”.
“I’ll pretty much take it as it comes and look at the week ahead," he said from his base in France.
“I'd be hoping for a decent ride at nationals at the end of June but I also hope to get a decent result in an elite national over here.
“Other than that I just want to continue building my base, gain more experience at this level of racing and get stronger and stronger each week.”
