Conor Hennebry has said while no discussions have taken place with any team about a move to the Continent next year he’s hopeful of “some sort of contract” for 2017.

The Aquablue rider is emerging as one of the best up-and-coming riders on the domestic scene and his solo victory in a kermesse in Belgium last night was further proof of that.

Since going full-time this year, Hennebry has racked up some fine wins, the best of which was the overall at the Tour of Ulster in May.

He’ll stay in Buggenhout outside Brussels with teammate Mark O’Callaghan for another fortnight after which he’ll return to Ireland for the Suir Valley Three-Day over the August Bank Holiday.

“I'm just enjoying the racing at the moment and if something comes from it we'll have to take it from there," he said.

“But I would be hoping for some sort of contract,” he added looking ahead to next season.

Hennebry is a punchy type of rider with a knack for sniffing out the right breaks.

He can also sprint very well and a move to a higher level on a more permanent basis wouldn’t be beyond him.

“I think I've made a big improvement since last year,” he reckoned.

“I came to Belgium last year for a few weeks and just got a kicking but I think moving to Aquablue has helped my improvement with the knowledge that's in the team.

“I would like a good result at the Suir Valley as it is local race and hopefully (get) a few more results here before I head home.”
