Cycling Ireland has thrown the high performance set-up open to Irish junior riders and in a separate development the federation has also advertised racing opportunities in France for them.
The national governing body has invited male and female
junior cyclists, born in 2003 or 2004, to register for a high performance
meeting, looking ahead to the 2021 season.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions that meeting hosted by Cycling Ireland's High-Performance Coaching Unit will be
held on Zoom.
It takes place next Thursday,
December 17th, at 7pm and is being billed as an “information meeting”.
“The purpose of this meeting
is to provide information to junior riders about the Cycling Ireland Athlete
Development Programme for juniors and International plans for 2021,” Cycling
Ireland said.
Obviously those international
plans next year will be very much dependent on how the Covid-19 pandemic
progresses.
However, with a vaccine now being rolled out in different parts of the world hopefully brighter times are ahead next year. You can register for the junior high performance meeting by following this link.
Cycling Ireland has also
advertised racing opportunities in France for juniors next year; something that
has been offered in recent years.
VC Pontivy, which is based in Brittany, France, is working with Cycling
Ireland to offer two junior men the chance to race with the team next season.
The successful applications will race in France for two weeks – to
include three weekends – over the Easter school or college break.
Once that stint is completed the two riders will come back to
Ireland and they return to France for a long racing period; from the end of May
to the end of August.
The scheduled planned for the riders will be they will be able to
return home to ride events like the National Road Championships and the Junior
Tour of Ireland.
There are conditions and various criteria as part of the application process and you can find all the details by following this link.
Give it a go, and good luck!
