Help save the Junior Tour and win this €3,000 bike; here's how

Anyone who enters the Junior Tour Sportive will be put into a draw for this €3,000 bike. Just enter for €20 and consider it a raffle ticket; you don't even have to turn up on the day.

Those entering the first of three sportives being held to help secure the future of the Junior Tour will be in with a chance of winning a €3,000 racing bike, it has emerged.

The Giant Propel has been donated by Will Curtin who owns the Cork Giant Store and is the man behind the fundraiser on Saturday week, December 13th.

The event, titled the Junior Tour Festive Fifty Sportive, is being organised by the club Curtin co-founded, Cork Giant CC.

It will leave the Giant Store in Ballincollig, Cork, at 11am on the morning in question.

And if the goodwill shown so far by those keen to keep the biggest junior race in Ireland or the UK alive is anything to go by, the event will draw a massive crowd.

Double Olympian Ciarán Power and the man who has won the Junior Tour for the past two years Eddie Dunbar will lead out the ride.

It covers a challenging route of 50 miles (80km) and as well as being a good spin for riders to get into their legs at this time of year, there should also be a really festive feel about the proceedings.

Former Grand Tour rider, Ciaran Power will lead out the sportive on Saturday week. Photographed training at the Athens Olympics in 2004, where his 13th place remains the best by any Irish rider in the road race.

Curtin is leaving no stone unturned in making the event a success and is offering up some fantastic prizes for all who enter, such as the top-of-the-range road bike.

And the Kanturk man believes it’s vital the current drive to save the race must be converted into as much money as possible in coming months.

“We believe the Junior Tour will need a lot more funding then is being speculated,” he said.

“That figure (€35,000 – Ed) will only see the event being held for one more year,” Curtin said.

“So to get entries as high as we can we’re going to hold a draw for all those who enter for the event online.

"Once you’re entered online, it doesn’t matter if you can't make the event on the day; you’ll still be in the draw.”

He encouraged as many people as possible to come along on the day but insisted those who could not make it should simply think of their entering as buying a raffle ticket.

“Rather than taking part in the event, they’ll simple be buying a ticket for the draw for the bike," he said.

"We’ve some other excellent prizes as well which can be delivered anywhere in the country even before Santa gets there,” he added.

As well as the €3,000 Giant Propel bike, there’s also a framed Irish team jersey signed by new NFTO rider Eddie Dunbar and a host of Christmas hampers.
