The family of a 40-year-old active and healthy leisure cyclist who has fallen seriously ill with Covid19 has urged people to heed the public health warnings about the condition.

Anna Schuchman, whose husband Daniel has required medical attention in intensive care, has said just because people are young and healthy it does not mean the virus can't impact them very seriously.

“For seven days, my husband has been lying in a hospital
bed trying desperately to breathe,” she said.

“This was never meant to happen to us. Dani is only 40,
mega fit and slim with no underlying health conditions.

“I’m a personal trainer and a nutritionist, so we are both healthy and active. We have four children, full time jobs and a busy family life.”

When concern began growing about the virus in Europe
about one month ago, Ms Schumann said her family monitored the advice and acted
on it, including encouraging their children to wash their hands.

About two weeks ago her husband began exhibiting what
were later confirmed as mild symptoms of Covid19. But within four days his
condition had deteriorated to the point of need a ventilator to breath.

“He came down with a fever on Sunday night and we could
hear him coughing all the way from downstairs,” she said.

“By Tuesday, my big, tall, strapping husband was a shadow
of himself. He was crumpled in his chair and he couldn’t lift his chin up.

“The following day we rushed him to hospital and we
haven’t seen him since,” she said or her husband, an IT consultant living in
north London.
