Robert Gesink was like the cat that got the cream after crossing the line first for Jumbo Visma at the end of their winning ride in the TTT at La Vuelta in Utrecht this evening.
When the team won the stage, it meant Gesink (36) took the race lead in front of a home Dutch crowd some six years after he last won a race.
The result was a massive hit with the fans, as expected, and Gesink clearly enjoyed his moment on the podium pulling on the roja jersey, which he will likely retain tomorrow given his team put 13 seconds into nearest rivals, Ineos Grenadiers.
Gesink's wife and two kids were waiting for him at the finish, with the embrace between them telling the story of the day, below.
