Cian Keogh came away from the National Track Championships with silverware last weekend and this video shows he was very fortunate not to suffer a very bad crash.
The U23 Irish road and track international was getting the power down at the start of the kilo when his chain snapped, sending him sprawling all over the bike. Luckily he was able to stay upright and rescue the situation.
Keogh, who won bronze in the individual pursuit, said while he restarted his effort towards the end of the running order, the crash had caused pain in his knee and his second effort was undermined by that. However, he said the incident could have been much worse and he counted himself lucky.
“The chain snapped when crossing the
first time check on the finish line,” Keogh explained. “If the chain had stayed
somewhat on the rings I’d have been thrown off the bike but luckily held the
bike tight and managed to stay on.”
