New World Champion, Martyn Irvine will open the Irish Cycling Show and will be interviewed at it
Having both won gold medals on the world stage, Ireland’s new word track champion Martyn Irvine and Team GB star Victoria Pendleton have been signed up by the Irish Cycling Show, which takes place in Dublin the weekend after next.
Pendleton, the now retired multi world and Olympic champion, is in Dublin early next week for a series of engagements.
Next Tuesday night she appears at a public interview and questions and answers session in aid of the Cyle4Haiti charity in Trinity College, Dublin. She will be interviewed by RTE’s Darren Frehill in front of an audience. The event can hold up to 400 people and while tickets are still available they are going fast. Get in quick if you plan to attend.
The Cycle4Haiti charity is sponsored by the one4all voucher company, which is also sponsoring the Irish Cycling Show in the CityWest complex off the M50. It means next Tuesday night in Trinity College, Pendleton will also officially launch the Irish Cycling Show, which opens just four days later.
Meanwhile, Martyn Irvine has been very much a man in demand since he took gold in the scratch race at the World Championships in Minsk last week, not to mention also taking silver in the individual pursuit. He will appear at the Irish Cycling Show when it begins on Saturday week, March 9th; opening the two-day event and also being interviewed in the theatre area of the venue later in the day.
He will have his iconic rainbow jersey on hand as well as his medals and the bike on which he won them. So it sounds like a great draw.
The show in the CityWest exhibition centre just off the M50 has moved forward to an early March date of 9th and 10th. Tickets are available from €4, with a family pass for two adults and two children coming in at a very reasonable €15. You can get them by clicking here.
But before then, Irvine will also be appearing in Kanturk, Co Cork, this coming weekend.
The Newtownards man is due to arrive at the banked track from 2pm on Saturday, when he will show off his medals and pose for pictures before taking part in a brief training session. There is an open invitation for anyone wishing to attend.
Kanturk CC is promoting the event and club chairman Dan Curtin said he's hopeful of a good turnout.
"Martyn has etched his name into Irish sporting folklore and we mightn’t see his kind for a while again. So to have him in our club on Saturday will be hugely inspiring for anyone who comes along. And hopefully we can get the crowd that his achievements in Minsk deserve."
