Eddie Dunbar’s co team leader forced to abandon Giro d'Italia

Tao Geoghegan Hart of Team Ineos has been forced to abandon the Giro after a crash on stage 13.

Eddie Dunbar’s Team Ineos has lost one of the two riders it appointed as team leaders after Egan Bernal was forced out if the Giro before it started.

Tao Geoghegan Hart crashed during
today’s stage 13 and as the stage continued at the time of writing Team Ineos
said he had crashed and been forced out.

He had gone in the early large breakaway with Irishman Dunbar, who was up the road again after his exploits of yesterday when he placed 3rd on the stage.

In the absence of Geoghegan Hart, the best-placed Team Ineos rider in the race is Pavel Sivakov who is placed 19th.

At the time of writing Eddie Dunbar was in a large escape group of over 20 riders with just under 90km remaining.

However, some of the riders in the group and much better placed overall than the escape group yesterday, which was allowed to gain over 15 minutes at one point.

Jumbo Visma, the team of race favourite Primoz Roglic, and UAE Team Emirates of race leader Jan Polanc were both riding in the peloton to limit the breakaway’s gap.
