
A 9-year-old girl has been killed and a 7-year-old boy was seriously injured in a crash with a motorist in a car on Sunday morning.
Both children were taken to hospital from the
scene in Co Galway. However, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A Garda statement said gardai were still at
the crash scene. It added the injured boy’s condition was “serious”.
The children were out cycling at the time
when the crash occurred, though no further details were available at the time
of writing.
“Gardaí are currently at the scene of fatal
road traffic collision between a car and two cyclists, a girl aged 9 and a boy
aged 7,” the Garda statement said.
“The collision occurred this morning, Sunday
21st, April, 2019 at approximately 11:55am on the R358 Ballinasloe to Ahascragh
Road, Co Galway.
“Both children were taken to Portiuncula Hospital where the 9-year-old
girl was later pronounced dead. The 7-year-old boy remains in a serious
condition.
“The road is currently closed for a forensic examination. Gardaí are
appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact
