Geraint Thomas has said he will be back on the home trainer immediately after dislocating his shoulder, which resulted in a trip to hospital for X-rays.

The Welsh rider abandoned the Giro on stage 3 exactly two months ago due to a fractured pelvis after a very unlucky crash.

He said today the X-rays after his latest crash, out training, showed there were no fractures.

"Not the Sunday I was expecting... crashed on some ice and dislocated my shoulder," he said while sharing his X-ray on social media.

"It’s back in now, after a rather painful two hours, but no fractures. So all good to get on the turbo tomorrow."

Thomas's X-ray shows his shoulder popped out and also reveals the pins in his collarbone from a previous crash.

The 34-year-old is heading into the final year of his current contract with Ineos Grenadiers after 14 full seasons as a professional, with two stagiaire periods before that.

His last victory was in the Tour de France of 2018, though he finished 2nd in that race last year. Thomas was dropped from the Ineos Grenadiers team for the Tour this season and was diverted instead to the Giro.

However, after crashing on stage 3 he went out of the race only for the team to have a fantastic run, with seven stage wins and the overall victory via Tao Geoghegan Hart.
