Garmin Varia Vision turns any sunglasses into 'Google glasses for cyclists'

The very slick Garmin Varia Vision mounts on any sunglasses and gives you your data in your line of sight; not to mention and satnav and other features.

Here’s an extremely cool piece of kit that anyone into their tech will just have to get their hands on; the Garmin Varia Vision.

It’s a heads-up display unit that can be used with any pair of sunglasses, meaning you don’t have to splash out huge money on new specs as well to get going.

The Varia Vision is a piece of kit that attaches to glasses and allows the rider read in their field of vision the data usually displayed on their Garmin Edge unit.

It means you don’t need to keep looking down at the computer fixed onto your handlebars to see your data as you ride.

Garmin says it will retail at $399 and it has a claimed weight of 29.7 grams. It can also be mounted on eight side of your glasses.

But while it’s compatible with your existing shades, the data can only be read from a Garmin Edge 1000 or 520 head unit.

It can be configured to show metrics cyclists need like heart rate, power output, speed, time and time of ride, distance and so on.

Garmin says the ambient light sensor and colour display means the data can be read clearly in any weather or light conditions.

It can also act as a satnav with turn by turn directions, distance to a turn and direction arrows and street names appearing in your line of vision.

Garmin also says the Varia Vision can communicate with its Varia rear view radar system, this alerting the rider when a vehicle is approaching from behind.

It is claimed the battery will last for up to eight hours and that the touch panel is wet-weather and glove friendly.

Added to all of that, the device will make your glasses vibrate to alert you to upcoming features on the road, pre programmed performance alerts and incoming calls and texts when paired with a smart phone.
