Gardai have begun a man-hunt after a motorist hit a cyclist in an early morning incident in Dublin and then left the scene.
Gardai have begun an investigation and are looking for a motorist who struck a cyclist early this morning, Saturday, before leaving the scene.
A car has been taken away for examination as part of the inquiries after it was found abandoned.
The injured cyclist – a 26-year-old man believed to be from another jurisdiction – was knocked off his bike in Baldoyle, north Dublin, by a motorist who did not remain at the scene.
The incident occurred at about 1am on Strand Road.
It is understood the injured man worked in a local hotel and that he suffered leg and spinal injuries during the incident.
He was taken to hospital and is still undergoing medical treatment, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Gardai found a Volvo car abandoned in the nearby north Dublin suburb of Coolock and suspect it was the one involved in the incident.
It was not clear if the car had been reported stolen and gardai were this evening still searching for the driver of the vehicle.
While the crash occurred in the early hours of the morning, there were a number of vehicles around and the driver now being sought had been spotted driving dangerously before hitting the cyclist.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward and help the investigation.
