Gardaí search for hit and run driver who left cyclist critical in Dublin

A cyclist in his 20s is in critical condition in hospital after a hit and run in Dublin

Gardaí are searching for a driver who hit a cyclist in Dublin’s north inner city last night and then fled the scene. The cyclist is critically ill in hospital.

Gardaí at Store Street have appealed to anyone who may have seen the hit and run at about 9pm last night on Sheriff St, Dublin 1, to come forward and help the criminal investigation now underway.

“Shortly
after 9pm a male cyclist aged in his early 20s was seriously injured when he
was struck by a car on Sheriff Street
Upper,” Garda Headquarters, Dublin, said in a statement.

“He was taken
from the scene by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is
understood to be critical. The driver and car involved in the collision failed
to remain at the scene.

“The scene was examined by Garda forensic collision investigators and local scenes of crime officers.

“A car
understood to have been involved in the collision was found abandoned a short
distance away on Guild Street and has been removed for forensic examination.”

Gardaí said they
were appealing to the driver the car and anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and they were
also seeking any dashcam footage recorded in the area at the time.
