The Gardai are investigating a collision in Dublin in which a cyclist was hit and seriously injured by an articulated lorry in the city.
The incident occurred in south Dublin just after 12 noon today, Wednesday.
While the injured cyclist, a woman in her 30s, was taken to hospital by ambulance from the scene and is undergoing treatment she remains gravely ill.
A Garda inquiry has been launched and officers are seeking witnesses to come forward and provide any information they can.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Gardai on Wednesday evening.
It said: "Gardaí in Donnybrook are appealing for witnesses following a traffic collision in Dublin on the 23rd March 2016.
"Shortly after midday a female cyclist aged in her late 30s was seriously injured when she was struck by an articulated lorry at the junction of Grand Parade and Ranelagh Road.
"The cyclist was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and removed by ambulance to St James’s Hospital. Her injuries are understood to be serious. The lorry driver was uninjured.
"A technical and forensic examination of the scene has been completed by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road has since been reopened to traffic.
