Gardai investigate after cyclist killed when knocked from bike in Dublin rush hour

Gardaí are investigating the death of a cyclist in his 30s in Dublin rush hour traffic and are appealing for witnesses.

 

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the death of a cyclist in rush hour traffic this evening, Monday.

The man in his late 30s died when he was knocked from his bike at City West Road, Brownsbarn Roundabout, Saggart, Dublin, just before 5.30pm.

On the basis of the information released by the Garda at the time of writing, it was unclear exactly how the dead man was knocked to the ground.

The emergency services were alerted and the man was attended to at the scene by paramedics. He was then taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where he died a short time later.

The stretch of road where the incident occurred has been closed for a Garda examination.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the collision, or to anyone who may have been in the area of City West Road between 5.20pm and 5.30pm, to come forward and give information to the Garda team at Clondalkin station.

The man’s death was the third fatality on the roads in 24 hours and the second death of a cyclist since the start of the year.

A cyclist in his 40s was struck by a car at the Kilmurray roundabout in Castletroy on the outskirts of Limerick City on Wednesday, January 8th, and later died from his injuries.
