Gardai have launched an appeal for witnesses to the crash last weekend in Wexford in which Sean Lynch was fatally injured.
The Meath man, who rode for Drogheda Wheelers, crashed in the A3 event at the Frank O’Rourke Memorial.
He had been in critical condition in hospital in the days that followed and sadly died yesterday morning.
An investigation is now underway into the crash, with gardai seeking information and witnesses.
“Gardaí at New Ross, Co Wexford, are appealing
for witnesses and information in relation to fatal road traffic collision which
occurred at 1.40pm on Sunday, May 5th, 2019,” the Garda statement said.
“At
approximately 1.40pm a 34-year-old male pedal cyclist was in collision with a
parked motor cycle on the main road from Adamstown to Carrickbyrne.

“The
injured man was taken to Wexford General Hospital with serious injuries and was
subsequently pronounced dead (yesterday), Thursday, May 9th.

“Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who may have information to contact New Ross Garda Station on 051-426030, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
Cycling
Ireland has also released a statement on Sean’s tragic death four days after
his crash.
“Cycling Ireland regrets to confirm that Sean Lynch of Drogheda
Wheelers died on Thursday, May 9th, following injuries sustained during the
Frank O’Rourke Memorial race in Camaross, Co Wexford, last Sunday,” it said.
“Cycling Ireland wishes to pass on their
deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Sean’s family and his many
friends in the road racing community, particularly his club Drogheda Wheelers
and to Navan Road Club, our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very sad
time.
“Cycling Ireland wish to thank Wexford
Wheelers and Drogheda Wheelers for all the assistance to Sean’s family and
friends over the last number of days.
“This is a very difficult time for the
Cycling community but the support to everyone involved with this tragic
accident from the wider cycling community has been very much appreciated.”
