The operation was carried out by officers from Kevin St station in the south inner city and was focused on enforcing the laws which oblige cyclists to use lights. Some cyclists were also caught breaking red traffic lights.

The 30+ cyclists who were caught were issued with fixed charge penalty notices, or fines, and they were advised about their future safety on the roads.

"Gardaí from Kevin Street carried out an operation on Friday and Saturday night to detect pedal cyclists running red lights and not having front and rear lights during the hours of darkness," the Garda said.

They added more than 30 FCPN offences were detected and that "safety advice" was offered to all cyclists who were stopped.
