Gardaí arrest woman after hit and run crash left cyclist critically injured

Gardaí investigating the a hit and run crash earlier this week, that left a cyclist critically injured, have arrested a woman for questioning. The crash occurred on Monday in Co Louth.

Gardaí said in a statement on Thursday the arrested woman (30s) was being held at a Garda station on the division of Louth-Cavan-Monaghan. She was being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"Gardaí continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the collision," the Garda statement added, with an appeal for witnesses to come forward still active.

The cyclist, a man in his 40s, was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for serious injuries. He remained in a critical condition on Thursday.

The hit-and-run road traffic collision occurred near Whitehouse Cross, Dromiskin, Co Louth, on Monday, January 6th.

“At approximately 6.25pm gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a collision, involving a vehicle and a cyclist, on the R132 in Dromiskin, Co Louth,” the Garda said in a statement on Tuesday.

Road users who may have dash-cam footage of the incident from 6.15pm to 6.45pm or were travelling on the Old Dublin Road between Castlebellingham and Dundalk were urged to contact gardaí.
