Gardai have arrested a man for questioning about a consignment of stolen bikes that was found in Co Dublin late last year.
Garda Headquarters, Dublin, said the man was arrested
about 116 bikes found in Newcastle last December.
The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested on Friday and was questioned for a period. He was later released without any criminal charges being pressed.
However, gardai are compiling a file on the case for the Director of Public Prosecutions, which decides whether people should be charged with crimes.
Gardai seized the bikes in one haul in a truck container
on an allotment in Newcastle on December 26th last year.
Gardai got a tip off the haul was stashed in the locked
container and put a plan in place to break it open and search inside.
When they gained access they found 116 bikes and other
components.
A statement from Garda Headquarters at the time said much of the haul was made up of specialised, or high-end, items.
Because of that, an estimate of €250,000 has been put on
the haul. Gardai believe the bikes were all stolen in a series of burglaries
and thefts over a long period of time.
