Gardai arrest man after cyclist killed in Dublin hit and run

A man in his 20s is being quizzed by gardai after a cyclist was killed in Dublin and the vehicle involved was driven away.

Gardai are questioning a man about his alleged role in a hit and run in Dublin last week in which a cyclist lost his life.

Eugene Maher (62) from Griffith Downs in Whitehall in north Dublin, was hit by a car on the junction of Howth Road and Clontarf Road in Clontarf, north Dublin, last Monday at around 6.30pm.

The car involved in the incident was believed to be carrying a number of young men at the time.

However, while the vehicle stopped briefly after turning into the path of Mr Maher and fatally injuring him, it did not remain at the scene.

The car, a silver Volkswagen Golf (05 D registered), was later found abandoned in the Marino housing estate less than one kilometre from the scene.
