Gardaí appeal for witnesses after cyclist dies of injuries from crash last weekend

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man injured in a cycling crash last weekend has now died in hospital while undergoing treatment

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a cyclist died following a road crash last weekend. The cyclist, a man in his 30s, crashed in the early hours of last Saturday.

While he was taken to hospital, and had been undergoing intensive treatment since then, he has now been sadly pronounced dead. Gardaí do no believe any other road users were involved in the crash in Co Monaghan.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Gort an Teannal, Knockatallon, Co Monaghan, in the early hours of Saturday 21st September," Garda HQ said in a statement.

"At approximately 1.15am, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a road traffic collision involving a male pedal cyclist. The cyclist, aged in his 30s, was seriously injured and removed from the scene to Enniskillen Hospital.

"He passed away on the night of Tuesday 24th September, 2024. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

"Any road users who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - and were travelling in the area at the time of the incident, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí."
