Gardaí appeal for public's help after cyclist goes missing on leisure spin

Tommy Egan was spotted out cycling last Friday but he then vanished and his family and gardaí have grown increasingly concerned over recent days

Gardaí have appealed for the public's help after a leisure cyclist was spotted out on a spin last Friday and has not been seen or heard from since. The missing man, Tommy Egan, was out for a bike ride last Friday afternoon and while he was spotted along the way, he has since vanished.

Gardaí and Mr Egan's family have become increasingly concerned for his welfare and have urged anyone with information, or who may have seen him on the road or anywhere else last Friday, or since then, to come forward.

Garda Headquarters in Phoenix Park, Dublin, has issued a statement confirming its concerns and releasing some information in a bid to prompt people who may have seen Mr Egan to come forward.

"Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 36-year-old Thomas 'Tommy' Egan, who is reported missing from Ballymurray, Knockcroghery, Co Roscommon since Sunday," the statement said.

"The last reported sighting of Thomas was on Friday 10th October at approximately 2:35pm cycling from Knockcroghery towards Athlone.

"He is described as being 6 foot 2 inches in height, with a medium/strong build, dark brown curly hair and a beard. He has green eyes. Gardaí and Thomas’ family are concerned for his well-being."

It appears while the last confirmed sighting of Mr Egan was last Friday, his disappearance did not become a missing persons case until Sunday, which is not unusual in some cases.

Anyone with any information on Mr Egan's whereabouts is asked to contact Roscommon Garda station on 090 6638300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
