Garda investigation begins after collision with car kills Limerick cyclist

The crash in Limerick that saw a cyclist lose his fight for life is being investigated by gardai.

 

 

A cyclist has died in his hospital after sustaining injuries when he was in collision with a car in Limerick.

The man, who had not been named at the time of writing, was in his 40s. He was struck by a car at the Kilmurray roundabout in Castletroy on the outskirts of Limerick City just after 2pm on Wednesday.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics and was then taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

Though he had survived the initial crash, he was in a critical condition in hospital.

It has emerged that the man died from his injuries in hospital yesterday.

Reports locally suggest there was nobody else injured during the incident, which is now under investigation by the gardai in Limerick City.

The stretch of road where the collision occurred was blocked off to traffic for a period after Wednesday’s crash.

It is understood Garda forensic officers spent a number of hours at the scene carrying out an examination of the road and that the bike and car were also examined as part of the inquiry into the cyclist’s death.
