Gardaí in Co Limerick have launched an investigation after a cyclist was seriously injured in a road traffic crash with a lorry driver. It was the second such incident in a week after another cyclist, in Dublin, was left with serious injuries following a collision with a truck driver yesterday.
The cyclist injured in the crash in Co Limerick was taken from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick while the scene was closed off to facilitate a Garda examination of the area.
The injured man, who is in his 60s, was cycling on the N20 near Patrickswell just before 3.30pm on Tuesday when the crash with the truck driver occurred.
Gardaí sealed off the slip road linking the N20 to the southbound carriageway of the M20 to allow for the examination of the crash scene to take place.
The scene was attended by local gardaí and paramedics from the National Ambulance Service. The Garda investigation into the incident was ongoing, with witnesses encouraged to come forward.
Yesterday in Tallaght, Dublin, a man in his 20s riding an e-bike was seriously injured when he was involved in a crash with a lorry driver at about 6.15am on the N81.
