The funeral of well known cyclist Gordon Scott, who sadly passed away after a race last weekend, will be held this Friday, July 17th.
The funeral service will take place at 11am in Ballyclare Presbyterian Church, 2 Foundry Lane, Ballyclare, BT39 9BQ.
Gordon’s family home will be open to visitors on Thursday, July 16th; 28 Huntingdale Court, Ballyclare.
Gordon’s death notice will also be in the Belfast Telegraph.
A great competitor on the bike and a very popular man off it, Gordon collapsed after a 10 mile time trial in Warrenpoint, Co Down, on Saturday.
And while he was taken to hospital he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The race was organised by Velo Club Iveagh, whose members said they were deeply saddened at Gordon’s passing.
“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Gordon Scott,” the club said in a statement at the weekend.
“He had been competing at our Co Down time trial and passed away in hospital after finishing his ride. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gordon’s wife and family.”
Gordon, a veteran rider with East Antrim Audi CC who was known as Scotty to his many cycling friends, was terrific rider on the road and against the watch on both track and road.
That class was recognised when he was selected to ride the Commonwealth Games for Northern Ireland in 1982.
His family had been hit by tragedy less than two years ago when Gordon’s and his wife Kriston’s eldest son William died suddenly aged 19 years.
Gordon is survived by Kriston and two sons Stephen and Alex.
Our thoughts, and indeed the thoughts of everyone in the cycling community across the country, are with Kriston and the boys at what is a very sad and difficult time.
